William LaVern Carter's Obituary
William ""Bill"" LaVern Carter, age 75 of Exline, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was born May 28, 1936 in Alicia, Arkansas, the son of James William and Ruth Mae (Light) Carter. Bill was raised in Arkansas. He later moved to Rockford, Illinois where he began his employment with National Lock. Bill began working as an assembler with National Lock, but later in his working career he made the transition to working in the office for the company. He was employed with National Lock for over thirty years.
Following his retirement, Bill moved to Exline, Iowa to be near his children.
Bill married Jenny LaPaglia on June 27, 1955 at St. Edward's in Rockford Illinois. They later divorced. He married Joyce Miller later in life. They would eventually divorce.
He had many passions and hobbies in life. Bill liked camping, fishing, boating, spending time with his boston terriers, and singing Elvis ""tunes"" to his children. Most importantly, Bill enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Bill is survived by five children, Theresa (Kory) Bragg of Harvey, Iowa, Sheri (Bill) McDonald of Centerville, Iowa, Tina (Rod) Williamson of Albia, Iowa, Lisa (Steve) Taft of Rockford, Illinois, and Rick Carter of Centerville, Iowa; a brother, Brus (Maxine) Carter of Powhatan, Arkansas; a sister Pat Swanner of Jonesboro, Arkansas; three step brothers, David (Marita) Carter of Paragould, Arkansas, Tim Carter, and Michael Carter; one step sister, Marylyn Neel; eleven grandchildren; and twenty two great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Pauline and Louise.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow in the Exline Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 12-8 PM at Lange Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the William Carter Memorial Fund and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
