Virginia B. Mcdonough's Obituary
Virginia Blanche McDonough, age 85, of Moravia died Sunday February 1, 2009 at Golden Age Care Center, Centerville.
Virginia was born April 7, 1923 the daughter of Walter H. and Lois (Graham) Gibbons in Hopewell, Virginia. She married Max J. McDonough, October 28, 1945 in Moravia, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1988. Virginia served on the Board of Rathbun Solid Waste Commissions, was a 60-year member of the Moravia Garden Club, past President of the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, and judged flowers at the County Fairs. She was a member of Christian Science Church in Ottumwa, organizer of Moravia Farmers Market, participated in Monroe County Master Gardeners, active in Moravia Trees Forever and Moravia and Appanoose County Historical Society. She was also active for 50 years in Moravia Fall Festival, organized the Class of 1941 reunions, Mayor for two terms for Moravia, Booster Club member, Ladies Auxiliary member, Election official and a member of Moravia Merchants Association.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Jan Sime of Des Moines, Iowa, and Joyce (Doug) Bender of Parnell, Iowa; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings, Fred (Loretta) DuVall of Moravia, Iowa, Bill (Diana) DuVall of Newton, Iowa, Mary (Bill) Benz of Centerville, Iowa, Jo (Max) McAninch of Ocala, Florida, and Nellie Eaves of Moravia, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Deana Dagle of Moravia, Iowa, Mary Lou (Rich) Raymie of Moravia, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepfather, Warren DuVall; and sister, Ruth Gibbons.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Moravia Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa. A visitation will begin at 2 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 with family present from 5-7PM at the funeral home in Moravia. A memorial has been established to the Moravia Garden Club or Moravia First Responders and may be left at or mailed to the Moravia Funeral Home 103 N. John St., Moravia, Iowa 52571.
