Virginia Lynn Grismore's Obituary
Virginia Lynn Grismore, age 98, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at MercyOne Long Term Care in Centerville.
Virginia was born on March 11, 1925 in Anniston, Alabama, the daughter of George "Luther" and Morey (Stovall) Rice. Following high school, she furthered her education, obtaining her Bachelor's degree from Alabama College for Women in Montevallo, Alabama. On December 30, 1947, Virginia was united in marriage to John R. Grismore in Anniston, Alabama. To this union, two children were born, John "Rick" and Carol.
Virginia taught English in the Seymour School district for a period of time. Much of her working career involved owning/operating the family jewelry store in Centerville with her husband, John. She was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville since 1963. In her free time, she was actively involved in P.E.O., Girl Scouts, and she was a volunteer for the Centerville School District, helping teach students English when it was their second language.
Left to cherish Virginia's memory are her children, John "Rick" (Theresa) Grismore and Carol (Jeff) Hammond; three grandchildren, David (Kaitlyn) Grismore, Steven Hammond and Elizabeth Hammond; two great grandchildren, Michael Liam Grismore and Miles Grismore; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Morey Rice; her husband, John R. Grismore; her grandson, Michael Allen Grismore; her brother, Charles Rice; and her sister, Clara Brightman.
Funeral services for Virginia will be held at 2:30PM, Monday, February 19, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Sarah Rohret officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hazel Dell Cemetery, near Allerton, IA.
