Thelma M. Rice's Obituary
Thelma M. Rice, age 103 of Cincinnati, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, Missouri.
She was born February 23, 1909 in West Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Della Henricksen. Thelma spent most of her youth growing up on a farm located between Centerville and Cincinnati. She graduated from Cincinnati High School. Upon her high school graduation, Thelma attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where she enrolled in the education program. While attending ISU, Thelma met her husband Harold Rice.
Upon her completion of several education classes at ISU, Thelma taught at a country school located southeast of Cincinnati for a few years. She later taught middle school in Cincinnati for the remainder of her years as an educator.
Thelma enjoyed all kinds of ""hand work,"" especially quilting.
She was a member of P.E.O., the First Christian Church in Cincinnati, and the Rebekah Lodge.
Thelma is survived by her three children, Glenda (Lowell) Brown of Unionville, Missouri, Kay (Lloyd) Deahl of Manchester, Iowa, and Roger (Sharon) Rice of Muscatine, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Kay Rice of Germantown Hills, Illinois; seventeen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; and four great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold Rice on June 6, 1993; a son Larry Rice; and a brother Gorden Henricksen.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Cincinnati, Iowa with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the First Christian Church of Cincinnati and may be sent to either the Church or Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
