Ruby Ethel Starnes' Obituary
The Lord called Ruby Ethel Starnes home early Monday morning, December 13, 2021.
Ruby was born on April 26, 1925 to Ross and Mary Palmer of Sewal, Iowa. She was the fourth of nine children. All of her siblings preceded her in death: Irene Palmer Lohr, Orville Palmer, Ila Mae Palmer Brees, Karl Palmer, Ruth Palmer Woollis, Harry Palmer, Leo Palmer and Floyd Palmer.
On June 16, 1952, Ruby married Ronald Starnes. They had no children but she loved her nieces, nephews and neighbor's children. They were married until Ronald was murdered in October 1986.
Ruby was a strong-willed woman and this helped her to pick up the pieces of her life after Ronald's death. She moved to town and began caring for an elderly woman as a nurse's aide.
Ruby's previous life on the farm came with her to town as she was a natural gardener. Her love for flowers was always apparent, and many people told her how much they enjoyed her blooming geraniums in the south window of her home.
Ruby also liked to read (her favorite past time), go for walks, and enjoy time with family and friends. She lived in her own home until suffering a stroke in March 2019 when she moved to Corydon Specialty Care.
Ruby leaves behind many nieces and nephews; in-laws, Koran Brees and Marilyn Palmer, and many friends to cherish her memory.
Celebration of Life service will be January 6, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon, Iowa at 11:00a.m. with interment for both Ronald and Ruby at the Corydon cemetery as they wanted to be buried together. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home on January 6, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to LeCompte Library in Corydon, Iowa. Condolences can be shared www.thomasfh.com or www.facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
