Robert Lee 'Bob' Hixson's Obituary
Robert Lee "Bob" Hixson, age 84, of Albia, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Bob was born on December 22, 1936 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of William Elmer and Gleda (Bradfield) Hixson. He graduated from Ollie High School. On May 20, 1956, Bob was united in marriage to Marilyn Jean Darby. To this union, three children were born, Chris, Cathi and David.
Bob worked at Easters Super Value throughout his time in Centerville as the Meat Manager. After leaving Centerville, they later moved to Albia where they owned and operated the Albia Dairy Bar for many years. During this time, he also drove the Ottumwa Transit Bus for many years.
Bob enjoyed life. He loved smoking meats and barbequing. He could fix anything, often known as the Jack of All Trades. He was great at woodworking as well! Bob was fond of riding his motorcycle too. He was very involved in Youth Girls Softball, always doing something to help including umpiring and groundskeeping. Bob was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Most importantly, Bob cherished any time he and Marilyn got to spend time with family.
Left to honor Bobs memory are his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Hixson of Albia; his children, Chris (Bruce) Micetich of Knoxville, Iowa, Cathi Underwood of Unionville, Iowa, and David (Jill) Hixson of Marion, Iowa; two brothers, Mike Hixson of Des Moines, and Tom Hixson of California; five grandchildren, Andy Underwood, Lisa White, Jared (Stephanie) Micetich, Tyler (Megan) Hixson, and Megan Hixson; six great grandchildren, Adalynn Underwood, Weldon White, Walker White, Berkeley Underwood, Jase Micetich, and Mason Micetich; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Gleda Hixson; two sisters, Rosemary Terell and Sue Vannoy; and a brother, William "Junior" Hixson.
Per Bobs wishes, cremation has been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 10AM, Saturday August 21, 2021 at the Rock Creek Cemetery in Ollie, Iowa.
