Sitting here thinking about Bob, so I thought I'd share a few memories of him. I think I first got to know him at Easter's where he ground up sirloin like no one else, we'd buy 10 to 15 pounds! It was so lean we put water in the pan to fry it. After I got to know him (also ate a lot at the Deli with Marilyn), I would try to yank his chain a little. I'd ask about a certain person and he'd take a meat cleaver and slam it down on the block! We'd both laugh! And softball, I still have a picture of him leaning on the fence waiting to umpire! One of the best and fairest umps I've seen! (A real volunteer) I knew he was a wood worker so I asked him to make my boys a baseball card holder with a plexiglass cover! I asked him how much he wanted when he finished, and he said I've got $80 bucks in it without labor! I said what do I owe you and he said $80! He said I enjoyed making it for the boys! One last thing, I listened to him tell about his neighbor in Albia and I tell you he still had that Hixson Fire!!! Marilyn and family, please accept our sincere condolences, we all lost a great man! May he rest in Peace!!
