I was sorry to learn that Dick had passed away. I worked with Dick at WOI radio when I was a student employee of WOI and as an employee of other organizations who partnered with WOI on concerts. Dick was always great at solving technical problems and making sure the equipment that I was using was in good working order.
Dick was great at sharing knowledge with me. When I was a student, Dick showed me how to align analog recorders. When the industry changed to digital recorders, I was lamenting to him one day about the challenges of learning how to align digital recorders. He had taken a manufacturer-taught class so he invited me to WOI and moved his alignment setup into a conference room so he could give me a personal class on aligning a digital recorder.
I am sorry that I could not attend his funeral due to equipment preparation and rehearsals for events that I could not reschedule. Ironically, two of the events that I was preparing for on that day were Des Moines Metro Opera and Yankee Doodle Pops, both of which I had worked on together with Dick many times.
