Phyllis Cosby's Obituary
Phyllis Jean Cosby, 85, of Centerville, formerly of Moulton, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on January 20, 2016. She currently was residing at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. Phyllis was born on October 7, 1930 on the family farm near Dean, Iowa. She was the daughter of Hubert and Irene (Montgomery) Morrow. Phyllis received her education from Moulton High School and continued at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and Indian Hills Community College. She served as a senate clerk in the Iowa Legislature, was a bookkeeper at the family-owned business Morrow Implement Co; owned and operated Phyl and Jodies along with Mary Jo Daniels for 3 years and was an assistant librarian at Garrett Memorial Library. Phyllis contributed columns to the Moulton Tribune for many years and later was a correspondent for the Centerville Iowegian. Phyllis was a member of Chapter F, PEO Sisterhood and a charter board member of the Garrett Memorial Library, helping to establish the library in 1969. She served on the library board for 25 years. Phyllis married Clifford Wayne Cosby in Kirksville, Missouri in 1951. They were the parents of one son, John Morrow Cosby of Centerville. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and painting with watercolors. Phyllis was an artist who was deeply moved by visits to the American Southwest. She loved the vast open landscapes, the mountain ranges, the quality of light, the architecture of Santa Fe and Taos, the culture of native-Americans, the photography of Ansel Adams, and the art of Georgia O'Keeffe - whose home she visited in Abiquiu. She is survived by her son, John Cosby and fianc Brenda Overturf, four grandchildren; Laura of Venice, CA, Karis of Seymour, Vaughan of Centerville and Jordan of Dover, PA, sister, Carol (Carl) Miller of Unionville, IA, two nieces; Carla (June) Pagdilao of Lahaina, HI and Claudia (Rodney) Purdum of Unionville, IA, two nephews; Craig Miller and Carson Miller both of Unionville, IA and all their families, as well as many very special friends. She was preceded by her parents and husband, Clifford. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 27, 2016 from 5:00-7:00PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
