Orris Powell's Obituary
Orris Leon Powell, 87 of Moulton passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. Orris was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Dwight and Meda Wagner Powell. He attended Udell schools and graduated in 1948. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Orris was united in marriage to Patty Doll on Oct. 18, 1953, in Centerville, Iowa. They raised their family on a farm near Moulton and were married 65 years. Orris was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren his entire life and served faithfully as a deacon along with Patty. He's remembered for his firm handshake, always having a smile, and happily helping others. Orris is fondly remembered by his wife Patty Powell; four children, Diana (Bill) Nutt; Jerry Powell; Linda (Mike) Shields; and Janet Powell; and three grandchildren, Ryan Nutt, Kelly Nutt, and Jerod Powell. He's survived by three brothers: Ellis (Doris) Powell; Earl (Beverly) Powell; and Darrell (Betty) Powell; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Orris was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be 11am, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Fairview Church of the Brethren with Rev. Sharon Heien officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5-7:00 pm.
