Norma McDonough's Obituary
Norma McDonough, age 90 of Moravia, Iowa died Wednesday evening, July 6, 2011 at St. Anthony's Hospital, Carroll, Iowa.
Norma was born May 5, 1921 in Coon Rapids, Iowa the daughter of John Thomas Bower and Velma Irene McLaughlin Bower. She attended the Coon Rapids, IA schools and graduated from Drake University with a teaching degree. She moved to Moravia to teach in the Moravia Schools and while living there met Jack McDonough. Norma and Jack were married June 25, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. They farmed outside of Moravia for 40 years, retiring in 1984 and moved into town. She loved to garden, sew, knit and was an avid reader. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia.
She is survived by 7 children, Ralph (Nancy) McDonough of Newton, Ted (Paulette) McDonough of Coon Rapids, Ann (Syd) McDonough of Bluffton, SC, Eileen (Jerry) Schima of Hazelton, Iowa, Jay (Deborah) McDonough of Huntsville, MO, Chris McDonough of Moravia, Randy McDonough of Mesa, AZ; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Jack, son Bruce, her parents and brothers Arnold and Maurice Bower.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa from 12 PM-6 PM, with the family present from 4-6 PM that evening. A private family graveside service will take place. Memorials have been established to either the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia or the Moravia Community Meals and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 103 N. John St., Moravia, Iowa, 52571.
