Mrs. Evelyn LaVar Evitt Obituary's Obituary
EVELYN LAVAR EVITT Evelyn LaVar (Mead) Evitt, the only child of Earl and Ethel Garretson Mead was born at the Mead farm west of Corydon, Iowa, May 29,1933. She departed this life on November 24, 2014 at the Wayne County Hospital. Evelyn went to country school at Locust Grove and graduated from Corydon High School in 1951. She has been a faithful member worker at the New Zion Church since a very young girl. She was born one half mile away from the church. It was told to her that in her first week of life, she was taken to church in a basket. The New Zion Church has been her church ever since. She has played the piano and sang for the church for many years. July 5, 1952 she married Howard Evitt at the Corydon Methodist Church. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage together. To this union Paul Wesley and Rodney James were born. They lived their entire life in Wayne County on a farm, except for the time Howard was in the navy. Evelyn was with him while he served in Virginia and South Carolina. Evelyn enjoyed farm life. She especially liked mowing the lawn and caring for her flowers and the picnics at the cabin. Her family relatives, friends and church family were all very dear to her. Some of the good times were Sunday School trips and the kids coming to her house to play games, have fun, and eat cookies and drink chocolate milk. Howard and Evelyn's home was always open to those who dropped in to visit over a cup of coffee and a piece of freshly baked cake. She was also willing to share a home cooked meal with those who dropped in at the spur of a moment. She lived her life to the fullest and praised the Lord for all the blessings he gave to her. Preceding her in death were her parents Earl and Ethel Mead and grandson Cody Evitt. She is survived by her loving husband Howard and her sons Paul and wife Mary Ann and Rodney and wife Debbie all of Corydon. Grandchildren Tyler Evitt of Albia, Jodi and husband Scott Ingram of Millerton, Justin Evitt of Lineville, Iowa, and Wesley and wife Megan of Corydon, Troy Trzpuc of Corydon and Wade and wife Adrie of Fargo, N.D.
