Mike Cooper's Obituary
Michael "Coop" Eugene Cooper, 61, of Centerville died Saturday, January 31, 2015. Coop was born May 23, 1953 in Webster City, Iowa to Paul & Janet (Nichols) Cooper. He received his education from Centerville High School graduating in 1971. Coop later received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa graduating in 1975. On April 24, 1993, he was united in marriage to Shelley Seeley at the First United Methodist Church. Together they have one son, Cole Cooper of Mystic. Coop was a member of the Centerville Fire Department for 37 years, he was also a loyal member and former officer of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2675. Coop enjoyed spending time with his buddies at the Eagles, except on Sundayshe was not much for BINGO! He was a brother to many and a friend to all. Coop worked, for many years, as a truck driver for Reliable Culvert and then for MFA oil in Centerville. Coop enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his son and also with his friends. Coop had his hangouts and loved to sit and B.S. with people. On occasion, he might even spend a little time antagonizing a friend just to get the reaction. For years he traveled with his group of friends to Kansas City to watch the Chiefs play football, all the while he was an Oakland Raiders Fan! Over the years Coop spent time coaching his son in wrestling and little league baseball. He was a proud papa, constantly sporting his typical smile with his son Cole tagging along. Coop always had a story that involved his son. He was never shy when it came time to boast about Cole. Coop is survived by his son Cole Cooper of Centerville, sisters, Holly (Stacey) Cooper-Simons of Tuscon, AZ, former wife Shelley Evers of Mystic and his brotherhood of friends and firemen. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Visitation will be all day Friday, February 6, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 4-8 p.m. Memorials are designated for his son, Cole Cooper Collegiate Fund.
