Michael Kaprich's Obituary
Michael (Mike) Joseph Kaprich, age 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 19, 2025, at home, after a six-month battle with cancer. He passed away surrounded by the love of his wife and children.
Mike was born on September 14, 1958, in Centerville, Iowa. He earned his master's degree from the University of Iowa and worked for 25 years as a registered nurse specializing in electrophysiology. A lifelong learner, Mike was known not only for his clinical skill but for the humor and joy he brought to his coworkers and patients alike.
He met the love of his life, Suzanne (née Kuehl), when the two were cast in a local production of Brigadoon. They were married for 32 years and raised their family together, first in Iowa, then Tennessee and Georgia, before returning to Iowa in 2024. There, Mike delighted in experiencing four full seasons again-especially the snow.
Mike was a devoted son, husband, father, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne; his children, Madeline and Mason; his brother, John, and sister-in-law, Rebecca; his nephews, Nathan and Andrew; his brother-in-law, Bart Kuehl; his future son-in-law, Jason; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Kaprich, his in-laws, Verna and Richard Kuehl, and his brother-in-law, Douglas.
Those who knew Mike remember him for his wit, kindness, self-awareness, and unwavering convictions. He was a safe presence, a dutiful son, a goofy and compassionate friend. He loved reading, meditating, and making wine. He took great pride in his children and his Iowa roots.
Although Mike's physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit-and his antics-live on in the hearts of those he loved. May his memory be a blessing, and his legacy of love, curiosity, and humor continue to shine.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at the Kirkendall Public Library Council Chambers, 1250 SW District Drive, Ankeny, IA 50023. Visitation will take place prior, beginning at 11:00AM.
