Michael Ray Coulter's Obituary
Michael Ray Coulter, age 77, of Centerville, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon.
Mike was born on January 28, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Richard and Rosemary (Stark) Coulter. He graduated from Ottumwa high school in 1962 and joined the Navy where he served his country faithfully, including 3 years overseas and in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on September 5, 1966. On December 2, 1967, Mike was united in marriage to Connie Irven in Bloomfield, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born, Tom and Chuck. Mike then attended college where he graduated from Iowa State University with his Bachelors degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology.
Mike worked as a Conservation Officer for a period of time. He also worked for Viskase, prior to accepting a position at Pella Corp, where he retired in 2008.
Mike was very active in the Masonic Lodge where he held many positions including Past Master. He and Connie were also very active in Order of Eastern Star. Mike was Connies biggest supporter of her OES duties and traveled with her all over the state and country, meeting new people and catching up with old acquaintances. In his free time, Mike enjoyed anything outdoors, including hunting, fishing and kayaking. He enjoyed teaching his sons, friends or anyone that would listen all about the outdoors and wildlife. The boys would still call him frequently to ask what kind of mushroom they had found or the name of a strange plant.
Mike is survived by his sons, Tom (Theresa) Coulter of Ottumwa, and Chuck (Erika) Coulter of Council Bluffs; four grandchildren, Taylor Jo (Dan) Killpack, Blake Coulter, Tyler Coulter, and Bryan Coulter; 1 great granddaughter, Lily Jo Killpack; and another great granddaughter on the way; siblings, Mary (Clayton) Wilcoxson, Lois Coulter, Linda (Doug) Nelson, Richard (Sherry) Coulter and Lisa (Derrick) Proctor; as well as several extended family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Coulter on September 20, 2018; sister Nancy McGee; and his parents, Richard and Eilene Coulter, and Rosemary and Charles McDonough.
Per Mikes wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Rathbun Lake at a later date.
