Mavis Cormeny's Obituary
Mavis Cormeny, age 84 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Homestead Of Centerville, Iowa.
She was born in Putnam County, Missouri on December 22, 1930, the daughter of James and Namoni (Feral) Hatfield. Mavis graduated from Putnam County High School. Following her attendance in college, she became a K-6 teacher in Unionville, Missouri. Mavis taught for several years. Mavis married Robert ""Gene"" Cormeny on December 22, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana. They were blessed with four children, Boyd, Larry ""Tiny,"" Rhonda, and Joe.
She spent many years concentrating in the crafts, including quilting, crocheting, and knitting. Mavis also loved to cook for family and friends. Her loved ones often enjoyed her famous dill pickles, beef and noodles, hot rolls, and of course, her exceptional lemon dessert. Furthermore, Mavis loved being outdoors, spending time in her garden or canning the vegetables she had grown. In addition to her numerous hobbies, Mavis was a dedicated member of the Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
Mavis is survived by her two children, Boyd (Bev) Cormeny of Gillette, Wyoming and Joe Cormeny of Hills, Iowa; two sisters, Jean (Lewis) Amos of Ottumwa, Iowa and Phyllis Ann Stark; a brother, James (Iva Mae) Hatfield of Lovilia, Iowa; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Troy Foster of Centerville, Iowa; and a daughter-in-law, Carla Cormeny of Moravia, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Larry ""Tiny"" Cormeny; a daughter, Rhonda Foster; a brother, Fred Hatfield; and two infant children, Steven and Debra Cormeny.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. Interment will follow in the Hilltown Cemetery, south of Moulton. A visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 10 AM-8 PM, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the family to be established at a later date and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
