I met Mavis @ age 15 when I married her son. I was a part of her family officially for almost 11 years during which four little girls were born. Mavis taught me nearly as much as my own mother did about cooking, babies and taking care of a home. Mavis was a wonderful gardener and canning season was always a busy time! I cannot imagine how many quarts of corn we put up together and the tomatoes too. It was a good time, lots of hard work and wonderful stories shared. I even remember churning butter in the table top butter churn, not that my time on the churn produced much result but it was an interesting learning experience. After her son and I parted ways Mavis continued to play a constant and supporting role in the lives of her granddaughters lives when they were young. For this I will forever be grateful. I am so glad I decided to stop and see her in May when I was in Centerville, we had a wonderful visit. She was a good woman with a fierce love for her family. My condolences to the family.
