Mark Uhlenhake's Obituary
Mark Joseph Uhlenhake, age 90, of Moravia, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Mark was born on October 6, 1933 in Ossian, Iowa, the son of John and Kathryn (Schlichte) Uhlenhake. He graduated from De Sales High School in Ossian, Iowa with the Class of 1951. Mark enlisted in the United State Marines Corp, faithfully serving his country during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged.
On June 8, 1953, Mark was united in marriage to Teddy Scheurich. To this union, six children were born, Paula, Lee, Jess, Clay, Reed and John. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1982. He then married Kathy Frumkin on May 21, 1983, and to this union, a son was born, Jake. He also gained two bonus children at this time, Joanne and Jeff.
In 1960, Mark began his career as an Iowa Conservation Officer. He worked for the state for 15 years. He then continued farming for the rest of his working career. In his free time, he was a Board of Director for REC for 14 years, a past member of the NRA, and a founding chapter member of the Ruritans. When he was younger, Mark enjoyed sports and hunting. Later in life, Mark loved playing cards with his friends, spending time with his family, reading, and woodworking. Throughout his life, he always had dogs by his side, bird dogs, terriers, and everything in between. No matter how busy he was, Mark always had time for his mules.
Left to honor Mark's memory are his wife, Kathy Uhlenhake of Moravia; his children, Paula, Jess (Tammy), Clay (Christi), Reed (Melanie), John (Leslie), Jake Uhlenhake, Joanne (Judd) Deville, and Jeff (Jennifer) Toney; his grandchildren, Neil, Logan, Sterling, Chase, Adam, Ty, & Sawyer Uhlenhake, Ian Bosley, John, Alex & Sam Toney, and Jay & Brooks Deville; a great grandson, Teddy Uhlenhake; his sister, Jackie Klisart; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathryn Uhlenhake; his first wife, Teddy Uhlenhake; his son, Lee Uhlenhake; his siblings, Dale Uhlenhake, Clotiel Bradshaw, and Rosemary Hemesath; as well as many good friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00PM, Friday, March 1, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Moravia with Larry Bettis officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will take place Friday, March 1, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Moravia beginning at 1PM, with the family present from 4:00-6:00PM.
