Marian Annabell Wonderlich, age 83 of Centerville, Iowa died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born January 17, 1929 in Brighton, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Elsie Kessel. She married J. Lee Wonderlich on August 31, 1947 in Richland, Iowa.
Marian attended a country school near Brighton, Iowa until third grade, when she moved to Ollie, Iowa and attended Consolidated School through high school. After marrying her school sweetheart at the age of 18, she started housekeeping in a trailer for four years, following Lee's work on construction. In 1953, Lee started working for ISU in Eddyville, Iowa, transferring to Centerville in 1966.
She was a homemaker, a devoted wife and ran a daycare in her home in Centerville for 22 years, she and Lee were caretakers for the elderly, and she was very active at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. Marian retired at the same time as Lee in 1988. Together they traveled from coast to coast visiting their children. Her health began to fail in 1995, a diagnosis of Parkinson's with lewy body disease was made in 2005. Marian always enjoyed life and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marian was very active in numerous organizations throughout the community, including Ladies of St. Mary's, Welcome Wagon, PTO, and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her husband, Lee; ten children, Diana (Jim) Murray of Yorba Linda, California, Danny (Stella) Wonderlich of Winter Park, Florida, Jo Ann (John) Goodman of Cantril, Iowa, Peggy (Richard) Ranes of Centerville, Iowa, Rae (Gary) Deklotz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary (Greg) Sharp of Cleveland, Ohio, Marcia (Doug) Hart of Centerville, Iowa, Rhonda (Phil) Swanson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Barry (Susan) Wonderlich of Ankeny, Iowa, Jerry (Teri) Wonderlich of Overland Park, Kansas; twenty five grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; sister Beatrice Reynolds; brothers, Harold, Howard, Eugene, Carroll and Dwight Kessel.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; sister Isabell Rich; brother Clyde Kessel; son-in-law Jim Murray; and granddaughter Theresa Murray.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, March 5, 2012 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Father Dennis Schaab officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa. A visitation will be held Sunday, March 4 at Lange Funeral Home from 2-6, with a Celebration of Life Service at 3 PM. Memorials have been established to either the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville or to the Family's Choice and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
