LaVerne Street's Obituary
LaVerne Elaine (Loney) Street passed away on August 13, 2020 at the Wayne County Hospital. LaVerne was born on November 19, 1927 to Gaylord William Loney and Veta Lee (Anderson) Loney in Lucas County near Russell. LaVerne moved to the Cambria area where she lived most of her life. She started playing on the high school basketball team when she was an 8th grader. She graduated as the valedictorian of her class at Cambria Consolidated School in 1946. LaVerne married the love of her life Maynard Casteel Street on November 9, 1946 at the Providence Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Kathy Sue (who died in infancy), Christina Gay, Calvin Maynard, and Carla Dee. LaVerne always opened her home to family members and friends. Steve and Jerry were two of her nephews that she always had an open door for. She was also very supportive of her kids and grandkids activities and was always proud of their accomplishments. LaVerne was the bookkeeper for Streets Trading Post up until her death. She was an active member of the Cambria Baptist Church for seventy plus years. Other activities include: member of the Cambria Garden Club, Bible study participant, Sunday school teacher, Bible School director, Jr. Choir leader, CHEYF leader, Hospital Auxiliary, and the American Cancer Society. She loved her animals, especially her cats and Shetland ponies. She was a true country girl. LaVerne was elected the Mayor of Cambria by popular vote on the Democratic Party. She will always be remembered by the spring in her step, the twinkle in her eye, and the hugs she had for everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Kathy Sue, husband Maynard, sisters; Francis, Marian, Wilma, Marlis, and Barbara and brother Richard, brother-in-law's; Ralph (Arlene), Ronald Kay (Gladys), Raedean (Banetah), Nick, Charles, and Mike Terrell. Surviving to mourn LaVerne are: Wendell Lee (JoAnne) Terrell, Christina Warnock (friend Danny), Calvin Street (Susie), Carla Foster (Marvin), grandchildren: David Nessen (Shannon), Jay Foster (Lesley), Darby Warnock (Tracy), Jeff Foster (Megan), Darcy Baughman (Jared), Jenna Street (friend Jason), sister-in-law's Caryl Street and Joy Loney, great grandchildren; Sean, Alexa, Kaitlyn and Sophi Foster, Mackenzie and Ben Shoup, Isacc and Marnee Foster, Miley, Milly and Marley Baughman, and several nieces and nephews. An outside service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cambria Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2020 from 2-5 p.m. at the Cambria Baptist Church.
