Kathy Shriver's Obituary
Laura "Kathy" Kathleen Shriver, 94 of Corydon passed away, Friday, June 30, 2023 at her residence.
Kathy was born on April 16, 1929 to Harrison and Alice (Widner) Cooksey. She was united in marriage on December 30, 1945 to Cecil Shriver. To this union came 5 children: Kahla, Kendall, Barton, Shannon, and Heather.
She accepted Christ as her Savior in November 1959. She was a member of the Clio Baptist Church for many years and later a member of the Seymour First Baptist. Her greatest desire in life was for her children and grandchildren to be saved, and spend eternity in heaven with her.
Kathy was a homemaker and a hard worker, always busy with all the work that comes with life on a farm. She was faithful to read her Bible and was a prayer warrior. She enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, reading the Sword of the Lord publication, and teaching Sunday school. Kathy and her husband Cecil, were very hospitable. They enjoyed hosting people in their home. In fact, after raising her own children, she was a caretaker for over 20 years to other children.
Survivors include her children Kahla (Carl) Ennis, Barton (Julie) Shriver, Shannon (Teri) Shriver, and Heather (Dana) Nickell; grandchildren Kent Ennis, Karrie Tidlund, Farrah Journey, Sasha Babcock, Kendra Regan, Merribeth Shriver, Caleb Shriver, Michael Shriver, Jordan Nickell, Patrick Nickell, Melia Nickell; 12 great grandchildren; along with other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Cecil; parents Harrison and Alice Cooksey; son Kendall Shriver; brother Claudie Cooksey; 3 sisters: Eva Porter, Opal Cooper, and Verlene Russell.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Micaiah Stanley. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 5 from 4-6pm at the Thomas Funeral Home-Cordyon. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at the Clio Cemetery in Clio, Iowa.
