Joy Alley's Obituary
Joy Prince Alley Joy Prince Alley, only child of Icy Shriver Prince and Ernest E. Prince was born in Wayne County, Iowa on November 2, 1915. She passed away September 18, 2010 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 16 days. Joy attended Sewal School graduating in 1933. On March 10, 1937 she was united in marriage to Jesse B. Alley and to this union four children were born. She spent her entire life in Wayne County living most of her life on the family farm near Sewal until she moved to Corydon in 1993 after the death of Jesse. In 2008 she moved to the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center and remained there until her death. Joy joined the Sewal United Brethren Church, which is currently the Sewal United Methodist church, as a child. She was proud to be the longest active member of many years. She served as the church pianist, was active in UMW, Sewal Ladies Aid and various church committees. Her church and church family were a very important part of her life. Joy enjoyed camping and traveling with Jesse, making quilts and afghans, playing cards with friends, and baking cinnamon rolls and cookies for her family. Joy didn't give up baking until she was nearly 90 years old, being known for going to every family function with a bucket of fresh cookies in hand. Joy especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Even though Joy was born an only child, when she married Jesse, she gained seven brothers and sisters. She loved the large family and all the Alley gatherings. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse, her parents and granddaughter-in-law Regina Alley. She is survived by son Dwight and wife Judith of Powersville, Missouri, daughter Becky Gotheridge and Gene Martin of Naples, Florida, daughter Doris Pollock of Corydon, and son Dean and wife Donna of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandsons, Rick, Randy (Carol), Rob (Heather), and Roger (Kristen) Alley; Scott and Bruce (Kristina) Pollock; six granddaughters, Kris (Matthew) Thomas, Kathy (Jeff) Austin, Beth (Eric) Palmer, Danielle (Joe) Roth, Denise Alley, Dee (Eric) Alley Ensign; fifteen great-grandchildren, Mandy (Ryan) Abner, Mitch and Kameron Alley, Brette and Brooke Alley. Michael and Shannon Joy Thomas, Brynn and Karsen Austin, Kayleigh Pollock, Alex and Max Pollock, Kade Richman, Eli Palmer and Hazel Joy Roth; two great-great-grandchildren, Madison and Brayden Abner. Also surviving are sister-in-laws Kathryn Renoe, Garden Grove and Lucille Alley, Zionsville, Indiana, and brother-in-law Bill (Avenell) Alley, Sewal, cousin Howard (Pam) Thomas, Juneau, Wisconsin and numerous other relatives and friends.
