Jose Gava's Obituary
Jose Gava, 54, of Centerville passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at his home. Jose was born to Remigio & Derly Gava on March 5, 1959 in Burarama, Espirito Santo, Brazil. He was a foreign exchange student in the states during high school but moved back home and received his high school education in Brazil. Jose moved back to the United States in 1984. He married Susan Lynn Adams on December 22, 1990 in Fort Collins, Colorado. In 1992, Jose received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Colorado State University. He was currently employed at Musco Lighting in Oskaloosa as a Graphic Designer. Jose enjoyed traveling, listening to music, cooking, eating, going to the beach, dancing and time spent with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his daughters and granddaughter. Jose is survived by two children: Kylie Jane Gava of Grinnell, Elyse Maria Gava of Grinnell, granddaughter, Serenity Jolynn Meldrem of Grinnell, mother, Derly Gava, four siblings: Carlos Augusto Gava, Maria Do Rosario Gava Grillo, Antonio Carlos Gava and Lucianita Gava Teixeira; all of Brazil, South America. He was preceded in death by his father Remigio Gava. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7 PM, Monday, October 14, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Visitation will be one hour prior from 6-7 PM. Per his wishes, Mr. Gava's ashes will be scattered in his native land of South America along the coast line. Memorials may be given to the family.
