Arthur Jeffrey Bates, 53 of Albia passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at his home in Albia. Jeff was born to Arthur V. & Mary (Vonevich) Bates on May 16, 1958 in Centerville. He received his education from Ottumwa High School and Indian Hills Community College. Jeff was employed by Superior Machine as a machinist. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, playing pool and working on motorcycles. Jeff is survived by his father Arthur V. Bates(Marge) of Centerville, two children; Cali of Newton, Kansas and Jamie, two grandchildren, a sister, Carla J. Bates of Urbandale, two brothers; Tom Bates(Diana Gordin) of Oskaloosa, Brian J. Bates(Stephanie) of Hobart, Indiana, his significant other, Gail Anderson and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Bates and a sister, Connie Louise Bates. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home. Visitation will be all day Tuesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m..
