Herbert Eugene Thomas' Obituary
Herbert Eugene Thomas, age 84, of Mystic Iowa died Monday evening, January 28, 2013 at Golden Age Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Centerville, Iowa.
Herbert was born October 11, 1928 the son of Steve E. Thomas Sr. and Golda Marie (Davis) in Hammond, Indiana. He was united in marriage with Lois Catherine Bills, his loving and dedicated wife of 58 years on July 10, 1954 in Centerville, Iowa.
Herbert was a cement finisher by trade. He received his training at Hammond Indiana Trade School. Herbert was a union man Local #21 and a math wizard. Herbert also owned and operated his own Hearing Aid service as an Audiologist in Mesa, AZ from 1968 to 1978. Herbert moved his family to Mystic in 1978 and returned to finishing concrete and supervised the concrete work for the Chilicothe power plant. Herbert donated his concrete skills to the betterment of Mystic by pouring and finishing the concrete at the Mystic City Park and the Mystic Fire Department building. In his early years Herbert enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with his family, dancing, music, working on his farm, and tinkering in his garage. Herbert's grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; sister Barbara Miller; brothers Don Thomas, Steve Thomas Jr., and Roy Wayne Thomas. Herbert was the father of Barbara E. Milburn (husband Ronnie) of Rathbun, Debra Jane Walker (boyfriend Joel) of Rathbun, Herbert Thomas Jr. (girlfriend Carla) of Mystic, Carol Marie Parker of Mystic. Grandchildren: Sarah Anderson (Chris), Heather Brown (Jason), Jennifer Thomas (Eric), Rusty Clark, Jesse Thomas (Krystal), and Maggie Walker (Clint). Great Grandchildren: Brianna, Kaylee, Alexis, Jackson, Jada, Triton, Remmie, Jersie, Haylee and Kabella. Herbert also had Sisters-in law, Brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews that he loved. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 2pm, Sunday February 10th, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home & Crematory, Centerville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Herbert Thomas to the Alzheimer's Association, donations may be mailed to or left at Lange Funeral Home & Crematory, 1900 South 18th St. Centerville, Iowa 52544.
