Grace Arlene Carter's Obituary
Grace Arlene Carter, age 89 of Moulton, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Golden Age Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville.
Arlene was born on October 20, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Yvon and Mildred ""Love"" (Stirts) Albee. She graduated from Centerville High School. Arlene married William E. Carter on January 10, 1943 in Linneus, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2002.
Following her graduation from CHS, Arlene became employed with Farrington's Telephone Company in Centerville. After a brief period of employment as a telephone operator, she changed careers and went to work for Miladys, a clothing store located on the North Side of the Centerville Square. Arlene worked many years in the retail clothing business.
Eventually, Bill and Arlene moved out of the city limits of Centerville by relocating to a family farm west of Moulton, Iowa. Arlene lived on the farm up until Bill's passing. She sold the farm about a year after Bill's death and moved into an apartment in town. She lived in her apartment for several years before making the transition to Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Arlene loved taking shopping trips to Des Moines with family and friends. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing. She also enjoyed playing bridge. Arlene attended the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville.
She is survived by her son Nick Carter of Moulton, Iowa; two grandchildren, Alyssia Ann (Don) Hawkins of Columbia, Missouri and Lori Dawn (Bill) McAllister of Bloomfield, Iowa; five great grandchildren, Preston (Denise) Webster of Tempe, Arizona, Kadie Webster of Kirksville, Missouri, Shane Hawkins of Columbia, Missouri, Carter Hawkins of Columbia, Missouri, and Autumn Hawkins of Columbia, Missouri; and a brother, Max (Jo) Albee of Rockford, Illinois.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; and a best friend, Rose Rice.
Graveside services will be held 4:30 PM, Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 3-4 PM. A memorial has been established to the Mt. Ararat Cemetery and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA, 52544. Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com
