Gina Buban's Obituary
Gina Marie Buban, age 50, passed away peacefully March 12, 2021, at Providence Cedars-Sinai hospital near her home in Encino, California. Following an exceptionally courageous battle with gastric cancer, family was at her side and she was listening to music by her favorite band at the moment of her passing. Gina was born April 5, 1970, in Centerville, IA, to Anthony Alfred and Judith Marie (Sacco) Buban, who survive. Gina is also survived by younger brother, Michael (Heather MacLennan); niece, Chayse Richman; aunts and uncles: Mary Ann Wetmore of rural Centerville, IA, Joann (John) Lasley of Moline, IL, Gary (Donna) Sacco of Moravia, IA, her beloved Sacco Family Cousins; special angels: Tiffany Kintzer, Erin Kintzer, Paula Savastano, Leanne Freeman, and many, many friends. Gina was preceded in death by paternal grandparents: Emery and Norma (Guzzi) Buban, maternal grandparents: Charles and Mary (Valentine) Sacco; aunts and uncles: Frances 'Fanny' & Pete Kauzlarich, Dorothy Martin, Joe Wetmore, Jasper 'Jappy' Sacco, Paul & Mary Sacco, Tom & Betty Sacco, and Robert 'Bob' & Gwendolyn 'Candy' Sacco. Gina was also preceded in death by two infant cousins: Donna Jean Sacco and William Robert Sacco. After graduating from Centerville High School in 1988, Gina attended the University of Iowa earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Socioeconomics. Having left her heart in San Francisco (as the song goes) after visiting, Gina moved to and lived in San Francisco for some years before moving to the Los Angeles area in 2016. Gina was employed by Freed Associates at the time of her death. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Gina's work included business process redesign, operations consulting, medical management program development, and change management. In addition, she led Freed's professional development program, helping colleagues grow and develop. She will be greatly missed by her Freed family and clients. An avid traveler, musician, and music fan, Gina pursued these passions with a fierce energy. Visiting 49 of the 50 United States (Alaska the lone exception), Mexico, Canada, several countries in Europe, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Australia, there was never much time between flight reservations. She achieved million-mile status with United Airlines (and that was not the only airline she traveled with). Gina enjoyed playing piano, guitar, and flute. A particularly accomplished flutist, she performed regularly with the Los Angeles Symphonic Winds ensemble and Song of the Angels Flute Orchestra. Gina loved attending live music concerts; encompassing many genres performed by countless artists. She was particularly a fan of the Foo Fighters, a globally known band with an extremely loyal fan base. Gina attended Foos concerts in many cities and venues, notably Wrigley Field in Chicago and during one particular adventure, Pula Arena in Croatia following a sojourn through Italy. Gina was also an up-and-coming music journalist and photographer, performing sanctioned concert photo shoots with various artists. Among other projects, notably her photos of and interview with British band The Struts were published in Digital Beat Magazine. Gina loved her family, friends, 'Foo Crew,' colleagues, and her job. She was always willing to make time for those she loved and would embark upon a cross-country road trip or trans-oceanic adventure at the drop of a hat. She was a deeply loved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, mentor, and teammate, who will be greatly missed.
