Gene R. Long's Obituary
Gene R. Long, age 80 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Gene was born in Darby, Iowa on August 12, 1929, the son of Carl S. and Berneice G. (Main) Long. His parents preceded him in death. He married Zona Phillips on November 20, 1949, who survives his passing. He is also survived by his son Phillip of Michigan City, Indiana, daughter Beverly (Kenny) Rogers of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Joyce Peek of La Plata, Missouri, Janice (David) Jay of Donna, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three nieces, and one nephew.
Gene served his country in the United States Air Force. He also had twenty three years of service with the United States Post Office, retiring on June 28, 1991 as the Numa, Iowa Postmaster.
Gene and Zona have been members of the First Baptist Church in Centerville and a memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church. Memorials may be dropped off at Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM, Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. A visitation will be held all day at the Lange Funeral Home on Monday with the family present from 6-8 that evening.
