Eva Fern Roberts' Obituary
Eva Fern Roberts, age 96 of Centerville, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Fern was born on February 7, 1927 in the country near Fulton, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Everett Menefee and Mabel (Henage) Menefee. In her earlier years, she attended country schools. She then went to Fulton High School, graduating with the Class of 1945. She furthered her education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, now Truman State University in Missouri, earning her teaching degree. Fern went back to the same country school she attended, and taught for three years.
Fern met the love of her life, Dan Roberts, and they were married on April 29, 1948 in Fulton, Missouri. The couple moved to Seymour, where he taught for several years before they moved to Centerville, teaching until retirement. Fern noted that she has met many good people while living in the area.
Fern was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, TRI-T, and the United Methodist Women. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and crochet, gardening, canning, sewing, general housework, going for long walks and time spent with her family.
Left to cherish Fern's memory are her children, Chris (Jane) Roberts of Rockledge, Florida and Rodney Roberts of Centerville, IA; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one step-great grandson, her brother, Everett Menefee of Houston, Texas; her sister, Norma Conklin of Mexico, Missouri; as well as several extended family and friends.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mable (Henage) Menefee; her husband, Dan Roberts on April 25, 2009; a sister, Mildred Menefee; and her brothers, Charles, Paul, Thomas, and Kenneth Menefee.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Centerville Faith Church with Pastor Andrew Daniel Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Visitation will take place Friday, June 30, 2023 at Centerville Faith Church with the family greeting friends from 10-11AM.
