Elvin Thomasson's Obituary
Walden Elvin Thomasson, age 88 of Centerville, passed away on August 24, 2020 at Centerville Specialty Care. Elvin was born December 23, 1931 on the family farm, southeast of Cincinnati, Iowa, to Lee and Edna (Henkle) Thomasson. He was a 1950 graduate of Cincinnati High School. Elvin served in the Army from 1953 - 1955 as an artillery mechanic. After returning home from the service, he went back to farming and cared for the family farm until retirement. Elvin was united in marriage to Vera Nadine Reynolds on May 3, 1952. Elvin was an active member of the community in addition to his farming. He worked 23 years on the ASCS Committee, was a 4-H Leader and served on the County 4-H Council, President of the Appanoose County Beef Producers for 15 years, Appanoose County Fair Board Superintendent, Member of the Board for Seneca Area Agency on aging Advisory Council, 15 years as Pleasant Township Democratic Committee Chairman, director on SEIDA Board for Area Transit System, served 2 terms on Appanoose County Board of Supervisors, member of the American Legion, member of the B.P.O. Elks, Korean War Veteran, and an adjustor for Farmer's Mutual Hail Insurance Company. Elvin was also involved with the Cincinnati Christian Church where he was a member. Elvin is survived by his daughter, Diana Hudson, one grandson, Scott (Kristi) Hudson, two great-grandsons, Sam and Sean Hudson, two sisters, Judith (Kenny) Stills and Janice Seddon, brother-in-law, George (Lois) Reynolds, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nadine, in 2011, son Edward in 1973, one son-in-law, Ron Hudson, in 2015, two brothers, Clifford and Burdette, and his twin sister, Earlene, in 2018. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, August 28, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 12-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
