Edna is my first cousin on the Sayers side of our family and the closest first cousin to me age wise. She was seven years old the day my parents were married and I came along about eleven months later. I have lots and lots of fond memories, from staying all night with her when my sisters were hospitalized and my parents couldn't leave their side to recently. She comforted me in the night when I cried. She showed me how to ride a horse. She had lots of friends in high school and she wore nail polish, frilly clothes and strapless bathing suits. She occasionally got into a bit of mischief too. Her wedding to Dwight was the biggest event at the Cambria Baptist Church that I had ever been to. Also the hottest because there was no air conditioning. It was standing room only and Edna was a vision in that white dress! She always had the biggest smile in the room, and the very best laugh. We knew when she was in a room by that laugh. We could also tell how she felt by the way she called Dwight's name. If she was unhappy with him, we could tell. If she needed help from him, we could tell. If she was feeling playful, we could tell. She and Dwight used to tell us to turn around and look at something else, but we really knew they just wanted to kiss without an audience. She loved her baby girls dearly, and was thrilled to have them. Dwight and my dad traded farm work back and forth for several years, and she always had lunch ready for them when they came in and never complained about it. She even provided a place for Uncle Dale to take a nap after lunch many days. In later years she would always tell me about the girls and their families and what each one of them was doing and where they were living. I have many, many memories that I wouldn't trade for the world. She was like big sister to me and a role model in many ways. But most of all, I will miss her smile and her laugh! I pray that she is sitting at the right hand of God, holding Dwight's hand, and laughing now.
