Edith Daugherty Lira's Obituary
Edith Daugherty Lira, age 81 of Numa, Iowa died due to complications from Alzheimer's on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center, Long Term Care in Centerville, Iowa.
She was born July 12, 1932 in Ellsworth, Illinois the daughter of Lenard and Edna Daugherty. She moved to Numa in the middle of her junior year of high school. That is where this good hearted woman named ""Edi"" met the man she would pass through life hand-in-hand with for 60 years, Louie Lira. They were married in Chicago then moved to the Quad Cities where they lived until 1971 when they moved back to Numa.
After high school, Edi went to school at AIB for secretarial training. During her career as a secretary she worked many places: FTC in Washington DC, Swift Law Firm, Jl Case, and John Deere. While at Deere, she earned her Certified Professional Secretary rating from the National Secretaries Association International. After moving back to the Centerville area, she worked for DeVore Motors, Excide Battery and Buban Motors before finally retiring in 1997.
Edi enjoyed many hobbies including reading, travel, arts and crafts, ceramics, gardening, sewing, cooking and being a wonderful grandmother. Edi will be remembered as an outstanding and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and gracious friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy, James and Merle Daugherty; and a sister, Mary K. Blevins.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Louie of Numa, Iowa; daughter, Christa Lira and son-in-law, Patrick Weise of Oviedo, Florida; grandchildren, Chance Weise of Charleston, South Carolina and Mariah Weise of Oviedo, Florida; sister, Beverly Beer of Spirit Lake, Iowa; brothers, Jesse Daugherty of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ernest Daugherty of Northwood, Vernon (Coleen) Daugherty of Centerville and Harry (Marie) Daugherty of Seymour; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Father Bill Hubmann officiating. Inurnment will follow the service in the Numa Cemetery, Numa, Iowa. A visitation will precede the service at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory from 1-2 PM on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Alzheimer's Association and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory or to the Alzheimer's Association: 255 N.
