Ed Micetich's Obituary
Edward "Ed" E. Micetich, age 90, of Buckeye, Arizona passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021, in Goodyear, Arizona. Ed was born on September 9, 1930 in Numa, Iowa to Phillip J. and Frances M. Micetich. He grew up in Numa, Iowa. At the age of 17, Ed left home and moved to Moline, Illinois where he went to work for John Deere. In October 1951, he was drafted into the Army. He attended Army Basic Training at Fort Riley in Kansas, served in the Korean War (2nd Division 23rd Tank Company), rose to the rank of Master Sergeant, and was honorably discharged after two years of active duty. He joined the Army Reserves at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin and served for four years. During his tenure with the Army, Ed received the honor of being recognized as Soldier of the Year for his company. After his military career, he worked in the newspaper printing business. He worked for the Seymour Herald and Corydon Newspaper in Seymour, Iowa, the Denver City Press in Denver City, Texas and the Safford Newspaper in Safford, Arizona. He played an instrumental role in starting the Safford Newspaper. He attended Eastern Arizona College and obtained a teaching certificate in 1969. Ed taught newspaper printing to older teenagers who were students in a reform school at Fort Grant in Arizona. He worked in the mines in Morenci, Arizona. In the late 1970's, Ed moved to Buckeye, Arizona and went to work as a surveyor. He eventually transitioned to heavy construction work and remained in that line of work until his retirement. He had the pleasure of working for Bechtel, Tiffany Construction, EME West Construction, and a few other construction companies. Ed was the epitome of a gentleman. He was honest, hardworking, and a man who deeply loved his family. He was a devoted husband, an amazing dad, an incredible Papa Ed/grandpa, a terrific brother, and a great friend. He had a big heart, the best smile, and greeted everyone with immense kindness. He was easy going, naturally funny, and loved to tell jokes and stories. He loved fishing and his favorite fishing spot was on the canal bank in Wellton, Arizona. Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita "Nita" Micetich; stepchildren: Phyllis Gill and Dennis Chamblee; grandson, Brent Chamblee; siblings: Florene Davis, Carl Micetich, Phyllis Tracy, and Thomas "Tom" Micetich; and parents, Phillip and Frances Micetich. Ed is survived by his children from his first marriage: Rodney Micetich and Randy (Lynn) Micetich; grandchildren: Todd (Amy) Micetich, Morgan Micetich, Amanda (Lance) Taylor, and Stephanie (Raul) Maza; Stacey (Buddy) Loveless, Shannon Jurn, Russell (Justin) Jurn, 15 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Margie Stickler, Phillip "Butch" Micetich, Delores "Dee" Smith, and Marcella Doggett; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Numa Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 10-11:00 a.m. In addition, a private celebration of life will take place in Buckeye, Arizona on a later date.
