Dorothy Haines' Obituary
Dorothy Haines, age 91, of Exline, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Homestead of Centerville.
Dorothy was born on June 13, 1929 in Exline, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Richard Drake and Laura Marie (Bauman) Drake. She spent her formative years in Exline, and graduated from Exline High School. Dorothy received her Associates Degree in education in Centerville, and soon after, began teaching at Garfield Elementary in Centerville.
On August 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Donald Haines in Exline. To this union, three children were born, Danny, David and Dale. After Dale was old enough to attend Kindergarten, Dorothy went back to school, receiving her Bachelors Degree in Education. She took it one step further, and received her Masters Degree. She then taught at Moulton Jr. High for five years, before teaching at Wayne County Community Schools. She worked at Wayne County Community Schools for 21 years before she retired. In total, she worked for 35 years in the field of Education.
Dorothy enjoyed reading, antiquing and refinishing furniture. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Exline Methodist Church. Later, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville. Most recently, Dorothy attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville. She was also a member of the PEO, and the Exline Royal Neighbors.
Left to cherish Dorothys memory are her husband, Donald Haines of Exline; her children, Danny (Barbara) Haines of Moulton, David (Marketta) Haines of Exline, and Dale (Karen) Haines of OFallon, Missouri; a brother, Larry (Carol) Drake of Exline; a sister in law, Connie Drake of Indianola; six grandchildren, Kelly (Robert) Valentine, Erica Tunink, Melissa (Bradley) VanBlaricon, Janelle (Memo) Zenteno, Nicole (Rob) Devall, and Adam Haines; as well as thirteen great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Laura "Marie" Drake; brother, Sidney Drake; brother, Richard Drake; sister, Carroll Ball; brother, Francis Marion Drake; infant brother, Dallas Milton Drake; and a great grandchild, Rowdee Valentine.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1PM, Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial was privately held at Exline Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, C/O Haines family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
