Donnie Bellon's Obituary
Donnie Earl Bellon, 80, of Corydon, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016, at Circle of Life Hospice-Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa. Donnie was born near Humeston, Iowa, to Earl & Neola (Rickert) Bellon on June 24, 1936. He received his education from Corydon High School, graduating in 1954. On February 3, 1956, Donnie enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve a four year term. After Basic Training, Donnie spent three years and five months at Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, New Mexico, until he earned his honorable discharge on February 2, 1960. Donnie was united in marriage to Nancy Belle Nickel in Corydon on September 28, 1958. To this union came five children: Rhonda, Joyce, Jean, Jay, and Jennifer. Donnie was a farmer for the majority of his life. He enjoyed taking short trips around the countryside and going to Branson, Missouri. Donnie was a family man; from the county fair to ball games, he faithfully attended his grandchildren's events. He has been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Corydon since 1961. Survivors include his wife of nearly 58 years, Nancy of Corydon, five children: Rhonda Socarras (Alfred) of West Des Moines, Joyce Brown (Mark) of Russell, Jean Lain (Terry) of Corydon, Jay Bellon (Heidi) of Corydon, Jennifer Couchman (Eric) of Humeston; 13 grandchildren: Laura Olson (Dan), Daniel, Anne, and Renee Socarras; Allison Brown, Kelsey Moran (Mike); Justin (Jenna), Tyler, and Kenton Lain; Emily Bingham (Brandon) and Matthew Bellon; Dalton and Dillon Couchman; four great grandchildren: Tucker and Brantley Lain, Lucas Olson, and Marlee Moran; three sisters: Evelyn Bettis, Marilyn Moore (Rex), Wretha Rumple (Dale); brothers-in-law: John Nickel and Norman Nickel (Peggy), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Jay & Velma Nickel. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 15, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Corydon. Interment will be at the Corydon Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Corydon. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church or Circle of Life/Legacy Lodge Hospice House in Chariton.
