Delilah "Berniece" Butler's Obituary
Berniece Butler passed from this world at 2:15 AM on December 7, 2022. She was born on August 25, 1917 in Numa, Iowa. Berniece was married on June 9, 1939 to Orville Butler for 50 years before he preceded her in death on May 3, 1989.
Besides 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, Berniece is survived by her sons, Harry (MaryAnn) of Lakewood, CO, Jerry (Diane) of Champaign, IL, and daughter, SueAnn (Robert) Carpenter of Bradenton, FL.
Berniece was a dedicated member of Drake Avenue Christian Church, DAR, and BPW for decades. She graduated from Numa High School and was a pioneering business woman. She was the longest serving certified election official in Appanoose County Iowa, receiving an award from the Secretary of State for her 25 years of service. She lived her 105 years independently and with passion. She loved gardening, canning, sewing and traveling. Berniece possessed a great sense of humor and lived life with love and zest.
A public Celebration of Life will take place next year, and will be updated when service times are set. Memorials in honor of Berniece have been established to either The Butler Family Centerville High School Scholarship fund or the Drake Avenue Christian Church, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Butler family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
