Dean Dwight Kenney's Obituary
Dean Dwight Kenney, 93 of Corydon passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Wayne County Hospital.
Dean was born on December 3, 1930 in Kearney, Nebraska to Archie & Martha (Marsh) Kenney. Dean moved from Nebraska to a farm near Corydon when he was 10 years old. As a kid, he attended a one room school house and would later graduate from Corydon High School in 1948. While in high school; Dean met Doris Marie Alexander whom he was united in marriage to on August 14, 1949 after her graduation from high school. To this union were two daughters: Sharon Sue and Connie Jo.
Dean and Doris lived on a farm east of Harvard where they have lived for more than 74 years. Dean had many interests, he loved farming but enjoyed being a mechanic. He could fix anything that was fixable. Dean was always designing and building things to make his work easier.
Dean's first job off the farm was working for Delbert Williamson where he hauled machinery and would work on them as well. He would later work for Benny Davis Enterprises; he worked on caterpillars as well as numerous other jobs. For a time, Dean worked in the county maintenance department as a mechanic in Wayne County. After retirement from the county, he would return to Benny Davis Enterprises as a mechanic. In his return, he and Benny designed and constructed the dinosaurs that stand along Highway 2, east of Corydon. Through these years, Dean still maintained his farm, even baling hay last summer at 92 years old.In his retirement years, Dean enjoyed woodworking. He was very skilled and meticulous making furniture and later making farm machinery (tractors, trucks, etc) to scale. He also had a love for reading.
Dean appreciated his neighbor Noah & Josephine Borntrager family and Kyle Jensen for all they have done.
Survivors include his wife Doris, daughters: Sharon Trumper (Michael), Connie Linney, three grandchildren: Kerri Wilson, Brian Glick (Jennifer), Matthew Glick (Rachel), six great grandchildren, Tyler Glick, Dylan Glick, Marlie Wilson, Kalaya Glick, Elysia Glick, Natalya Glick. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Eula Henderson (Wayne), Leland Kenney (Shirley), Gordon Kenney and a son-in-law, Robert Linney.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 10:00-11:00 am.
