Dave Rietter's Obituary
David "Dave" Francis Rietter, age 56 of Seymour, Iowa left this world May 28, 2015 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born July 20, 1958 at Fort Knox, KY to David D. Rietter and Janet B. Hoene-McQuilkin. He received his education from Cocoa High School in 1976, after participating in one of the first year-round school terms in the country. The "Daves" Rietter, Burkard, Dallen and McNamara were fast friends in school; surfing in the early mornings, going to school, more surfing then working the night shift. Golf was always on the agenda also. His love of the game started when he was about 8 yrs old by his Great Aunt Daisy, who was an avid golfer. In 1985 he met Denise Crawford. They both worked for Winchell's Donut House in Texas and married a short time later. He was a PGA professional golfer while working as the Pro for Mountain View Country Club and Cresta Verde Golf Course in Corona, CA. They moved from Texas to California to New Hampshire, finally settling in Iowa. He found his golf game again and many new friends along with it. Just days before his diagnosis, he and his partners Todd Defoe & Kris Shondel won The Preserve at Lake Rathbun Men's Championship in 2014. He played regularly at the Manhattan Golf Course in Centerville with many friends, old and new; young and not so young. On June 5, 2013 he achieved the ultimate goal of all golfers, a hole-in-one! on the 7th hole of the Manhattan course. He is survived by his wife, Denise; mother, Janet Hoene-McQuilkin; sisters Holly Rietter-Garrington, Laurie Dunlop and Cheryl Nichols; and children, Alison Rietter, Brandon Upchurch, Schon Upchurch and Ryan Upchurch. He was preceded by his grandparents, father, David D. Rietter, Aunt Helen Lynde, and Uncle Rudy Stravena. A celebration of Dave's life will take place at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Manhattan Golf Course/Trophies Lounge where stories and pictures will be shared by friends and family. After the Life Celebration concludes, friends and family will play 9 holes of golf to honor his memory. Memorials may be given to the Centerville High School Golf Teams (he was an equal opportunity kind of guy) and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
