Daryl Anderson Cox's Obituary
Daryl Anderson Cox, 94 of Corydon, Iowa passed away December 3, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Daryl was born on November 9, 1929 to John and Myrtle (Dent) Cox. He attended Cambria High School where he met the love of his life Hazel Fortune. They married on November 22, 1950 the day before he left for Korea. He returned a year later and they soon welcomed their three children; Rick, Nancy and Linda. Daryl served his country in the United States Army for over 33 years before retiring as a Lieutenant colonel.
Daryl was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years. He was a member of the Russell E. Marshall American Legion - Post #68 in Corydon, IA for 70 years where he started the Legion youth baseball league. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and wood working. Daryl enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Daryl and Hazel were faithful members of the Cambria Baptist church. You could always count on seeing Daryl with a big smile on his face helping at the Fall benefit for "Operation Christmas Child" every year.
Survivors include his children: Rick Cox (Susan Myers), Nancy (Allan) Jacobsen and Linda (David) Grismore, his grandchildren, Justin Cox, Micah Hager, Deana (Luis) Abarca, Quentin (Lynette) Jacobsen and children, Brooks, Camryn and Strait, Whitney Jacobsen-Morris and children, Aryanna, Dayton and Cortlan, Jordan Grismore, Kessa (Curtis) Hoepker and children, Carver and Channing Hook, Jillian, Curissa and Curt Hoepker and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hazel, siblings; Vernon Cox (Lois), Dean Cox (Willa Jean), Raymond Cox (Nellie), infant brother, Larry Dale, in-laws; Frank and Ruth Fortune, sister-in-law Betty June Pollock (Roy) and infant granddaughter Chantel Leigh Cox.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will full military rites will be in Corydon Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be all day, Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at the funeral home with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Memorials may be given to Forest Lake Baptist Camp or Russell E. Marshall American Legion - Post #68 and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
