Clarabelle Henderson's Obituary
Clarabelle Henderson, 95, of Corydon passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Corydon Specialty Care. Clarabelle was born on April 9, 1921 to Newton and Lida (Keiter) Rew in Grundy Center. Her family moved to Wayne County when she was five years old, where she attended rural school until the 5th grade. Her family then moved to town, where she graduated from Corydon High School with the Class of 1939. Clarabelle also graduated with a degree from Drake University. Clarabelle married Harry "Junior" Henderson on September 18, 1943 in Princeton, Missouri and they lived on a farm north east of Millerton. She and Junior enjoyed spending the winters in Texas, where they made a lot of good friends. Junior passed away in 2001. Clarabelle was a school teacher for 47 years. She taught in several rural schools and also at Corydon, Cambria, and Allerton. She enjoyed doing word search and picture puzzles, playing card games, and quilting. She was a member of P.E.O., Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the Corydon Garden Club. Clarabelle is survived by niece Florence Darrah, nephew David (Shirley) Bott, niece Carol (Louis) Kenney, nephew Mark (Joyce) Bott, niece Janet Rew Hanson, niece Barbara Hoxworth, niece De'Nee Rew Gray and nephew Larry Rew. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Warren Rew, sister Inda Bott, brother Donald Rew, sister Dorothy Adams Marshall, brother Walter Rew, and nephew Charles Adams. Funeral service will be Friday, December 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Diane Olson Schroeder officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Millerton United Methodist Church or Prairie Trails Museum of Wayne County and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
