Christine Harter Obituary's Obituary
Christine Harter, 89 of Des Moines passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Kavanagh Hospice House on 56th. Christine was born on September 16, 1921 in Bloomfield, Iowa. She received her education from Bloomfield High School in 1939. She would later attend Ottumwa Heights Academy and Kirksville. She married Wilbur 'Bill' Harter on March 20, 1942. Christine worked as a secretary for Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance company and was an Arthur Murray Dance Instructor. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a founding member of Des Moines Ski Hawks, a member of the Slavic-Croatian Center in Des Moines, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverdale, Head Start Coordinator, and March of Dimes and United Way Participant. She enjoyed water skiing, playing piano, playing bridge, sewing, pets, ballroom dancing, singing in numerous choirs including the Sweet Adeline's and rode a motorcycle until the age of 65. Christine is survived by two children; Douglas Chris Harter of Des Moines, Merrillyn Val Harter of Des Moines, two grandchildren, John Amos Harter and Faith Ellen Chinnock of San Diego, California, two brothers, Robert Swift(Vada) of Neosho, Missouri, Jack Curry(Virginia) of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and a half-sister, Carol Sue of Antelope Valley, California, and her dog Shady. She was preceded in death by her brother Dean Swift, sister Esther Jean Courtney, a half-brother, Chuck Curry. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home - 108 West Poplar - Bloomfield, Iowa 52537. Visitation will be one hour prior from 12-1:00 p.m.. Interment will be in IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Memorials may be given to the family which will be designated at a later date. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
