Carl Ray Rinehart's Obituary
Carl Ray ""Crazy Ray"" Rinehart, age 70 of Mystic, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Continental Care Center, Seymour, Iowa.
He was born June 6, 1944 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of James Rinehart and Louise (Tootsie) (Bozwick) Rinehart. Carl graduated from Centerville High School in 1962. He attended Indian Hills Community College from 1988-1990, majoring in Aviation Maintenance.
Upon his graduation from school, Carl was a truck driver and farmed. He also worked for a brief period of time at John Deere in Ottumwa in the welding department. Carl also owned ""Crazy Ray's"" Bar in Mystic for several years. He spent several years working at Lake Rathbun's South Fork Marina.
Carl married Shirley Pitts in April of 1964. They later divorced but remained close friends.
Carl loved Mystic and often referred to it as ""God's Country."" His fight for the betterment of the people of Mystic led to his serving as both marshal and mayor of the community. In addition, he received his pilot's license and loved flying ultralight planes. He loved traveling, visiting with friends and riding his bike. Moreover, he loved to swim and upon his retirement from work, swam everyday at the YMCA.
Carl is survived by two children, Shelly (Jeff) Belloma of Pella, Iowa and Scott (Amy) Rinehart of Mystic, Iowa; six grandchildren, Ashley (Christopher) Simmons of Pella, Iowa, Zakk and Payton Belloma of Pella, Iowa, Makaine and Treye Rinehart of Mystic, Iowa, and Dalton McGrann of Manson, Iowa; a great-granddaughter, Tuesday Rae Simmons of Pella, Iowa; a sister, Kathy (Darrell) Hill of Greentop, Missouri; two nieces, Tammy (Mike) Hurley of Kirksville, Missouri and Marlene Brown of West Des Moines, Iowa; a great nephew, Casey (Brooke) Hurley of Kirksville, Missouri; special friends, Diana Wallerich of Moulton, Iowa and Ron Baumert of Sigourney, Iowa; and ex wife, Shirley Schmell of Centerville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Tootsie Louise (Bozwick) Rinehart; grandparents, Charles and ""Fannie"" Frances Boswick; and an uncle, Carl Boswick who died serving his country during World War II; and an infant daughter, Melinda Jo McMahon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Mystic Community Church in Mystic, Iowa with Pastor Holly Oden officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Mystic, Iowa. A visitation will be held at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville on Saturday from 10 AM-8 PM, with the family present from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the City of Mystic (To be dispersed at the family's discretion) and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
