Bettye Davis' Obituary
Bettye Davis, age 81 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa.
She was born August 7, 1931 in Utica, MS, the daughter of Wiley Bryan (Nip) and Esther (Boleware) Neill. Bettye graduated from high school at Utica High School. She attended Hinds Junior College in Raymond, MS. She married DeVere Davis on November 13, 1955 in Utica, MS.
For many years Bettye was self-employed, owning and operating a merchandise store in Roxie, MS. She was a member of the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, Iowa for seventeen years. Bettye enjoyed for many years being a member of the Moravia Garden Club, judging flowers for local fairs, and teaching Sunday School. She loved to cook and was an avid reader.
Bettye is survived by her husband DeVere Davis of Moravia, Iowa; three children, Neill (Trudy) Davis of Denham Springs, LA, Wanda (Johnnie) Dixon of Petal, MS, and Gisele (Terry) Chapman of Moravia, IA; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; a special friend Jessi Self of Moravia, IA; three sisters, Jewel Carraway of Utica, MS, Peggy King of Athens, AL, and Sandra (Hilton) Goff of West Memphis, AR; a sister-in-law Patricia Neill of Utica, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers Wiley Bryan Neill Jr. and Robert Clay Neill.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Moravia, Iowa from 12-8 PM, with the family present from 5-8 PM. A memorial has been established to Hospice of Monroe County and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
