Betty Jean Lear's Obituary
Betty Jean Eddy Lear, age 89, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center - UnityPoint Health in Des Moines.
Betty was born on March 13, 1935 to Carlos and Faye (Beard) Eddy. Betty attended rural schools in northern Missouri and southern Appanoose County. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1953.
As a young lady, Betty became a member of the Mt. Hermon Evangelical United Brethren Church in Chariton, Missouri. As an adult, she was a strong religious person, who read her bible daily and attended church by watching Sunday morning sermons on the television.
After graduating from high school, Betty moved to Des Moines to work. After several different jobs, she found something she loved at Hiland Potato Chip Factory. She worked there until they closed. Shortly after it's closing, there was an article in the Des Moines Register about her being their longest employee of 28 years. Betty had a couple of other jobs until she got on with Housekeeping at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines in 1993. She worked there until she retired at the age of 82.
Betty was a friend to everyone and had many special friends who she spent many happy days with. She will be greatly missed and always, always loved by everyone who had the pleasure to get to know her.
Those left to cherish Betty's memory are her nephews and nieces, Randy Mark (Karen) Smith, Michelle (Dale) Grandgenett, Melissa (Dennis) Gibson, Megan (Brian) Weeks and Melinda (Todd) Pearson; many cousins, great nieces and great nephews; her godchildren; the Tejeda family; as well as many friends.
