Zeph Lloyd Earhart's Obituary
Zeph Lloyd Earhart, age 96, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the oldest son of Charlie and Veva Alice (Cross) Earhart on October 28, 1918 in Mystic, Iowa. He attended the Day School in Johns Township and then graduated from the Plano High School in Plano, Iowa in 1936.On April 7, 1940, Zeph was united in marriage to Mildred Longley in Moulton, Iowa at her parent's home. Zeph entered the US Army on June 10, 1944 and served during WWII in Ordinance as aTec 3 Auto Mechanic until his honorable discharge on April 5, 1946. He was stationed in California for a short time then moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a little over two years before moving back to Centerville to raise his family. He worked for over 25 years at Iowa Southern Utilities in Centerville as a pipe fitter and in the service area. He was a founding member of Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville where he served as a Deacon and most recently served as a church Elder.He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Mildred (Longley) Earhart on January 1, 2000; his daughter, Caroll (Earhart) Harbour-VanDyne; and two sisters, Alice (Earhart) Hixenbaugh and Evelyn (Earhart) Bear.Zeph is survived by: a brother, Kenneth & Sue (Fowler) Earhart of Lincoln, Nebraska; his son, Richard & Diana (Gaunt) Earhart of Menifee, California; four grandchildren, Deborah (Harbour) Gay, Terry Harbour, Kevin Earhart, and Kristina (Earhart) Miller; four step-grandchildren, Debbie Gabrielson, Darin Fergusen, Danielle Wall, Devin Sodders; and six great grandchildren, Michael Earhart, Meagan Earhart, Alexander Miller, Katherine Miller, David Miller, & Madison Harbour.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa with Pastors Robert Pick and Adam Standley officiating. Burial with full military honors to follow at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to either Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church or to Mt.
