Wilma E. Hearn's Obituary
Wilma Elizabeth (Tiller) Hearn passed away at her home in Centerville, Iowa on July 11, 2009. She was born August 30, 1932 in Fort Pierce, Florida. Her parents were Ralph Eli Tiller and Eleanor E. (Reynolds) Tiller.
Wilma married VanLeer Hearn, November 24, 1956 in Marion, Illinois. They had four children; VanLeer (Bud) Hearn Jr. of Pleasantville, Iowa, Dawn Hearn of El Paso, Texas, Jennifer Aguilar (and her husband Martin Aguilar) also of El Paso, Texas, and John Mathew (deceased); one grandson, Alex Aguilar of El Paso. She has a brother George Tiller of Georgetown, South Carolina and a sister, Sallie Driscoll (and husband James Driscoll) of Harpers Ferry, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and infant son, John.
Wilma graduated from Marion (Illinois) High School in 1950 and earned a B.A. in Education from Mac Murray College at Jacksonville, Illinois in 1954. She taught first grade at Pahoa, Hawaii, at several schools in Illinois, fifth grade at St. Mary's School in Centerville, and was a substitute teacher in the Centerville school system until she retired in 1994.
Wilma was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Albia, Iowa. She had served as Senior Warden and was a Licensed Chalice Bearer. Wilma was a member of T.T.T. Chapter ER. She had severed as President and as coordinator of the Camp Girl Program. For several years she has been Chairperson of the Centerville Community Blood Drive. Wilma was also a member of MXL.
Wilma and her husband enjoyed traveling; they went on several cruises and did extensive RV touring and camping. She also enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and fishing.
According to her wishes, her remains have been cremated, there will be no viewing. Visitation with the family present will be at the Lange Funeral Home, 6PM to 8PM, Wednesday, July 15, 2009 with a Prayer Service at 7PM. The will be a private family service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Grace Episcopal Church or Hospice of Mercy Medical Center and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
