William "Bill" Swab's Obituary
William H. 'Bill' Swab, age 88, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, September 12, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center's Long Term Care in Centerville. He was born the son of Nicholas and Ellen 'Nellie' (Eatock) Swab on July 31, 1926 in Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from the Centerville Community High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corp. Upon his honorable discharge, Bill attended Centerville Junior College and later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry.Upon graduation, Bill was employed as a chemical engineer with Joseph D. Seagrams Company and later with 3 M Company. While employed at Seagrams in Indiana, he met Jane Irene Dillon and they were married on April 11, 1953. He eventually became certified as a license securities dealer and worked for Shearson Brothers in Detroit for several years until returning to his hometown in 1975 to open up a local office with Edward Jones. Bill was proud of the services he was able to provide to his investment clients and took great pride in helping them increase their holdings over the years.Bill's greatest passions were hunting, raising and training his hunting dogs, and playing golf. He was a member of the Appanoose Country Club and was able to shoot his age during his early 70's. During Bill's life and, as part of his estate planning, he has given generously to numerous civic needs, charities and school scholarships.He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his wife, Jane Swab on October 2, 2008.Bill is survived by: a host of close friends and relatives.Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. William Hubmann officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated and no visitation will be held.
