William Robert "Bob" Sibbit Obituary's Obituary
On Friday, March 8, 2013, our Daddy took his final ride to be with his heavenly father in his home among the stars. William Robert Sibbit was born on April 2, 1923, to Wilber Horace Sibbit and Lela Blonda Thompson Sibbit in the Forks of the River Community northwest of Trenton, Missouri. Bob graduated from high school where he played football for the undefeated Trenton Missouri High School Bulldogs of 1940-1941. He then attended the University of Missouri and transferred to Trenton Junior College during the war. Bob had received a deferment because he was Wilber & Blonda's only child. On August 30, 1944, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Mayo. Together they welcomed three daughters to their family, Roberta Ann and Jim Chambers, Corydon, Iowa, Donna Kay and Tom Hathaway, Lakeland, Tennessee, and Janet Sue and the late Ron Peterie, Corydon, Iowa. Bob and Ann have spent nearly 69 loving years with each other, raising their family and welcoming grandchildren. Bob farmed for many years on the family's century farm in Grundy County, Missouri. After a serious illness limited his ability to continue farming, he and Ann moved their family to Columbia, Missouri where he and Ann both attended the University of Missouri. Bob received a Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry in 1964, and a Masters Degree in Animal Science in 1966. He returned to North Missouri as a Livestock Specialist for the University of Missouri until his retirement in 1988. Bob was an avid horseman throughout his life. He and his daughters trained and showed everything from ornery ponies (Thunder & Lightening), to barrel racing champions, pleasure, reining, and roping horses, and fine award winning cutting horses. One of his favorite sayings was, 'I know they are good - I trained the horse and I trained the girl riding the horse!' His horses and his girls won awards throughout the midwest in both state and national competitions. In addition to his horses, Grandpa Bob and Grandma Ann loved to fish. He always had a rod & reel with him and they traveled throughout the Midwest, Canada and Alaska fishing for everything from Bass to Muskies, to Salmon. During their marriage they spent time in Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Brazil, and went to Honduras to visit with Alfredo and Daisy Moreno. Alfredo had been a foreign exchange student who spent four years with them while Alfredo attended college. Alfredo became the son Daddy never had. Grandpa Bob's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was probably most important to him. He served his church in Princeton, Missouri as an ordained Deacon, and lived a life we are sure the Lord is proud of. He never spoke a bad word about anyone and he was proud to say 'I've never smoked and liquor has never crossed these lips' - a true Southern Baptist!!!! In addition to Ann and his daughters, he is survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren: Token & Tammie Dickerson and Trish, Louisburg, Kansas; Dusti & Daren Relph, Teela & Tyler Becker, Elizabeth & Memphis, Trevor DeVore, Winston Relph & Raquel Relph, all of Corydon; Jared & Pam Chambers and Baby Chambers, Corydon; David & Pam Hathaway, Elese & Robbie, Collierville, Tennessee; Marcy & Brent Adams, Jordan, Tanner & Jamison McClaran of Kansas City, Missouri; Tara & Ryan Bradley & Dalton, Houston, Texas; Monica Masolini of Flushing, Michigan; and step-grandsons Kent & Barb Chambers & families, Lowell, Arkansas and Jeff & BJ Chambers & Alyssa, Bakersfield, California A Memorial was held in Corydon, Iowa on Sunday, March 10, 2013 and Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 11, at the First Baptist Church, Princeton, Missouri. Burial was at the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery northwest of Trenton, Missouri, all under the direction of the Randolph-Black Funeral Home, Corydon, Iowa. Condolences may be sent to Mrs. Robert Sibbit, #9 Murphy Place, 620 East Monroe, Corydon, Iowa 50060.
