August 26, 1930 - May 27, 2022
Mr. William Edward "Bill" Miller of Centerville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2022 at the age of 91, with his wife Charlotte at his side. Bill was the father of Cindy, Cathy, Mike, and Mark; stepfather of Brianna, grandfather of Nicholas, Dustin, Vincent, and Bonnie. He was also great grandfather to 6 great grandchildren. Through his marriage to Charlotte, he was stepfather to her sons Torry, Terry, and Todd, and step-grandfather to their children. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Aley Miller, his brothers Clair, Bob, and Carl, and his sisters Betty and Carolyn.
Bill was born and raised in Cincinnati, Iowa. After graduating from Cincinnati High School, he served in the United States Army, and was awarded a Purple Heart in the Korean War fighting with the Second Division. His service to his nation is commemorated with an engraving on the Welcome Home Soldier Veterans Monument in Albia, Iowa.
Following his time in the service, Bill returned to Iowa. During his long career, he worked for John Morrell, Wilson Foods, and also worked extensively in the transportation industry. In between his beginnings and his final years in Iowa, he also spent time living in South Dakota, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, and Colorado.
In 2003 he married the love of his life, Charlotte, at her parents' home in Centerville. They made their home first in the Colorado Springs area and later moved back to Centerville. They were married nineteen beautiful years, during which they enjoyed building upon and improving the homes they owned together, and visiting the homes of their children to do the same. They were active members of the First Baptist Church in Centerville and the local 18-80 club, where they enjoyed visiting and travelling with friends in the community.
Bill enjoyed spending his time engaging in outdoor activities, doing puzzles and playing games with friends and family, and had a lifelong love of sports. He also loved travel, and had fond memories of many trips to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Bill will be missed by the many friends he has made over the years along with his loving family. Bill is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill and family were thankful for his friends at Centerville Specialty Care for his excellent care and kindness.
