William "Arky" McElroy's Obituary
William "Arky" McElroy, 82, of Centerville went home to be with his lord and savior on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Bill was born in Malvern, Arkansas to Charles and Florence (Thomerson) McElroy on December 28, 1933. He received his education from Malvern Schools. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy. On April 8, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Earlene Peel Stogdill. He was employed by John Deere for 30 years before retiring in 1993. Bill was an outdoorsman and loved to take his boys hunting and fishing. He also became quite skilled in woodworking. Many summers were spent with the family in Branson. Bill never met a stranger. He could strike up a meaningful conversation with anyone. Bill spent a lot of time at the Little League Baseball Field watching his kids and many others play baseball. He was a member of the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville and a proud member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 74. He also spent time singing with the Barbershop Quartet. Survivors include his wife, Earlene McElroy of Centerville, children: Sheryl Fuller (Steve) of Centerville, Donna Neel of Malvern, Arkansas, Cindy Edwards (Al) of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mark Stogdill (Sharla) of Moulton, Dorrie Printy (Ray) of Chariton, William McElroy Jr. (Debbie) of Chariton, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Vern and Sadie Ruth of Savannah, Missouri and Alan and Karen Jones of Goodyear, Arizona, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Joanne Lee. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will be in Haines Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
